Upgrading of the area of the former Eridania sugar refinery in Sarmato (PC)

The entire Eridania property is located in Sarmato (PC), approx 13 km from Piacenza. It is in a strategic position since it is served by the via Emilia (S.S. n° 10) and it is not far from the A1 (Piacenza Ovest exit) and A21 (Castel S. Giovanni exit) motorways.

The area of the former sugar refinery is dived into three parts. The first is south of the via Emilia and is approx 165,000 sqm; the second lies between the via Emilia and the Alessandria-Piacenza railway and measures approx 235,000 sqm, whereas the third area, the furthest north, measures 300,000 sqm and is limited by the Alessandria-Piacenza railway to the south and by the A21 Torino-Piacenza motorway to the north.

The Eridania plant is close to other industrial areas all with equal functions and state of expansion, therefore it is in an extremely favourable position for type of production and logistics. The above-mentioned observations have suggested the renovation and upgrading of the areas of the former sugar refinery, which are currently abandoned and unproductive.

Furthermore, considering the strategic and functional value of these areas, we consider it useful to maintain its production purpose and increase its accommodation capacity. Technically speaking, the renovation of the area of the former sugar refinery envisages the realization of an industrial allotment for productive purposes, which rationally uses the space arrangement of this area.

The entire planning has therefore been thought of as an instrument to make the area unique, well planned and functional, yet bearing in mind its environmental aspect. The project is planned to greatly respect the countryside and the existing built-up area, improving it with an environmental system, which is new compared to the preceding projects. Particular attention has been set to try and integrate the new buildings into the pre-existing, especially the residential ones of environmental and landscape value.

The allotment planned inside the three areas will be extremely flexible, so as to adapt to numerous settlement demands or for different uses.
